PI

Khurram Shehzad

Dr. Khurram Shehzad is a University Professor at the Silesian University of Technology, Poland. His interdisciplinary research bridges materials science, semiconductor devices, optoelectronics, advanced sensing and intelligent systems. His work focuses on translating emerging materials into practical technologies for imaging, healthcare, robotics, environmental monitoring and security.

His principal research interests include two-dimensional materials, graphene–silicon and black-phosphorus–silicon photodetectors, lead-free perovskite X-ray detectors, flexible and wearable sensors, neuromorphic optoelectronics, and edge-intelligent imaging systems. His group develops the complete technology chain—from material synthesis and interface engineering to device fabrication, characterization, system integration and application-oriented validation.

Dr. Shehzad has led and contributed to internationally funded research projects supported by the National Science Centre Poland, TÜBİTAK, the National Natural Science Foundation of China and other major funding agencies. His projects have addressed infrared photodetection, graphene-based optoelectronics, wafer-scale device manufacturing and environmentally sustainable radiation detectors.

He has published more than 80 research articles in internationally recognised journals, including Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Electronics, Nature Photonics, Advanced Materials and Chemical Society Reviews, attracting over 4,000 citations. He is also the author of the Wiley monograph Graphene for Post-Moore Silicon Optoelectronics.

Dr. Shehzad is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics and the Institute of Materials, Minerals & Mining, as well as a Senior Member of IEEE. He serves as an Associate Editor of Applied Nanoscience and has supervised PhD students, master’s researchers and postdoctoral fellows from diverse international backgrounds.

His research vision—“AI for Devices, Devices for AI”—combines intelligent data processing with next-generation sensing hardware. Through international collaboration and technology translation, he aims to develop high-performance, scalable and environmentally responsible devices capable of addressing real-world scientific and societal challenges.

Maciej Krzywiecki

Dr. hab. Eng. Maciej Krzywiecki is Head of the Electron Spectroscopy and Functional Materials (ESpeFuM) Laboratory at the Silesian University of Technology and an expert in advanced characterization under ultra-high-vacuum conditions. He graduated with honours in Technical Physics (Optoelectronics) from the Silesian University of Technology, obtained his PhD from Jagiellonian University, and earned his habilitation in Physical Sciences in 2020.

His research focuses on photoelectron spectroscopy, surface and interface science, charge-transfer processes, heterojunction formation, adsorption, corrosion, and sensing effects in hybrid materials, metal oxides, and layered structures. He has extensive experience in designing and managing state-of-the-art UHV research infrastructure and has led the development of the UHV Electron Spectroscopy Laboratory at ESpeFuM since 2016.

Dr. Krzywiecki has coordinated national and international research projects, published over 100 peer-reviewed papers, and collaborated with institutions including the Max Planck Institute, the University of Tübingen, Eindhoven University of Technology, and NTNU. Within the group, he provides scientific mentorship, experimental supervision, advanced data analysis, dissemination support, and international coordination.

Nasir Ali

Dr. Nasir Ali is an Assistant Professor at the Silesian University of Technology, Poland. He received his PhD from Zhejiang University in 2022 and subsequently completed postdoctoral research at Zhejiang Lab, where he worked on high-sensitivity perovskite X-ray detectors.

His research focuses on solution-processed perovskites, single-crystal and thin-film growth, interface and defect engineering, charge-transport physics, photovoltaics, resistive memory and radiation-detection technologies. He has published approximately 70 peer-reviewed articles in journals such as Advanced Functional Materials, Nano Energy, Small, Solar RRL and ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces. His academic contributions also include a book, two book chapters and a patent. He serves as an Associate Editor of Materials Innovations.

Sanam Attique

Dr Attique obtained her PhD from the School of Materials Science and Engineering at Zhejiang University, China, under the supervision of Prof. Shikuan Yang. She subsequently conducted postdoctoral research at Zhejiang University under the supervision of Prof. Beibei Xu. Dr Sanam Attique will join the Materials & Device Research Group at the Silesian University of Technology as an Assistant Professor in October 2026. Her research interests include organic–inorganic lead-halide perovskites and environmentally safer lead-free perovskite materials. Her expertise will strengthen our research in advanced functional materials, optoelectronics and next-generation radiation-detection technologies.
